UMAMI

THE PROJECT

This project was my first real exposure into the field of user experience through my Multimedia & Human Computer Interaction course.  The purpose of this project was to work in a group to develop a recipe mobile app.  The point of this project was not to fully develop a functional app, rather it was to perform the various phases of developing it.  The phases included ideation of the app, writing a proposal, low and high fidelity prototypes,  and usability testing.

My group's recipe app was called Umami, which is the culinary term for savory.  Our app was designed to help people who just starting to learn how to cook, and give them a one-stop-shop where they could learn the essentials.  We designed and tested features such as a recipe finder, a glossary, cooking tips, a rating system, and a couple others.  We really tried to make the process of learning to cook much less intimidating.

MY ROLE

I actually served as inspiration for the idea of this app.  I also served as the unofficial project manager of our group.  This meant that I kept everyone on the same page and made sure the project was heading in the right direction with everything getting completed.  A major part of my role in the group was to create and finalize all documentation regarding the project.

The way we organized our workload was separating the features of Umami so that each member was in charge of designing and developing a particular feature.  I was in charge of a feature we called "Grocery List", which essentially automatically created a grocery list for the user in-app.  I created the low fidelity prototypes for this feature and wrote the use cases for it that were used during usability testing of the entire app.  I also conducted a portion of the usability tests performed.

This is the final report for the Umami recipe app.  Please note that the low fidelity prototypes are not available as there were only physical versions made.
